Tata Sky DTH vs Airtel IPTV:
Recently I bought a new Full High Definition (Full HD) LCD TV and was looking out for channel service providers to suffice.
I tried both Airtel IPTV and Tata SKY DTH services and they both had their own pros and cons.
At first I went with Airtel IPTV because it lured me by giving bundled services:
1: Very good bouquet of 138 channels with 7 days of recorded TV channel viewing with play/pause/forward feature. They call it "Time Shift" TV.
2: 2MBPS/10GB unlimited internet surfing
3: Land line phone service with Rs 300 cap for calls upto Rs2000 [i.e. discount of Rs1700 :) ]
All this for very reasonable price tag.Experience with Airtel has always been good, the 3 services bundled with reasonable price tag is a great offering from Airtel. The service was prompt and it got installed after initial payment of Rs.1750 and I got STB, Modem and Telephone Instrument. I enjoyed watching my movies with "Time Shift" while skipping all the ads. Internet surfing was brisk and downloads speeds was very good.
Airtel IPTV is best service for non-full HD TVs but they don't provide Full HD (1080p) resolution. This is the only reason I tried Tata sky DTH as I wanted HD quality video & audio for my Full HD LCD.
Tata sky offers great HD services. They offer 7 HD channels as of now which have immaculate reception quality for both video and audio in Full HD. Other non-HD channels too had better reception quality. The Set Top Box(STB) is very responsive and the remote control is very nicely laid out.Overall it is bliss for TV viewers , but it comes with price tag, the yearly cost of STB+Subcription costs you over 6279K for all channel bouquet and HD channels come at extra cost. Also you have to pay more for getting play/pause/forward service as you will have to buy Tata Sky+ which is even more costlier. It doesn't even come with bundled Internet services. Tata Sky is purely TV channel services at its best.
